ARISE FROM THE LOOMS PIECES OF ART!

We want to introduce you to Laura, a dear Venezuelan friend, hardworking woman, persevering and magnificent artisan, from her hand we bring you the hammocks of Tintorero.

Undoubtedly, Tintorero in Venezuela, is the cradle of artisan fabrics of Lara and the Central Region.

This small town near Barquisimeto is where the best hammocks of Venezuela are woven with the cotton wick thread. Each hammock is unique.

The textile art in the area began with the first settlers of Quíbor and El Tocuyo.

The first residents were taught the art of weaving, among many other objects, the prized hammocks of Tintorero and the wool of sheep to ensure the supply of the raw material. With the disappearance of grazing land for sheep, wool is no longer used but wick, thick thread, resistant, little hatched, made of cotton.

Although the nearby rumor of the sheep that used to graze in the vicinity of Tintorero is no longer heard, and the industrial cotton has completely replaced the wool for the elaboration of these beautiful hammocks, a group of craftsmen headed by the memory of the already legendary Don Sixto Sarmiento, continues the arts of the European loom turning them into industry of excellence and performance.

The looms continue working and now it is the rattle of these that resonate in the vicinity of Tintorero.

The weaving of hammocks and chinchorros, hanging objects of indigenous origin destined for sleep, rest, love and death, has spread to all regions of the country, adopting in each place, in each location, an expression that characterizes them and makes them different.
